Copenhagen Half Marathon exceeds expectations

The Copenhagen Half Marathon, Denmark’s brand new world-class race
took place on Sunday 13 September in the Danish Capital.

The race has been certified as 5-Star Quality Road Race by European Athletics with 19,425 Danish and international runners having completed the half marathon.

Among the participants was American ambassador in Denmark and running enthusiast, Rufus Gifford, who set a quick time of 1:39:48.

“The city was alive and it was a wonderful thing to see,” said Gilford. “I don’t get out and walk the streets enough in this beautiful city, running on the streets normally filled by cars is a whole new and lovely perspective for me.”

“I would absolutely recommend Copenhagen Half Marathon for other runners from all over the world. I love Copenhagen and this city comes alive during the event. It is a wonderful way for international visitors to experience the city that I love.”

A perfect course

Gifford also enjoyed the beauty and design of the course which is accessible to runners of all levels:

“The race takes you through all neighbourhoods; gritty urban communities, gorgeous centuries-old palaces, modern harbours and along the canals.

“The course is flat so it's achievable for both new runners and those who are experienced. It is a fantastic European race.”

The event organisers hope to continue to increase the standards of the Copenhagen Half Marathon with the intention of creating a world class setting for both elite and recreational runners.

The 2016 edition of the Copenhagen Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 18 September 2016 - entry opens 1 December 2015 at
